Things to do in Stornoway

Stornoway the capital of the Western Isles welcomes visitors from all over the world, during the summer months.

Overlooking the busy marina,is Lews Castle, once home to Sir James Matheson who bought the Isle of Lewis in 1844. The Castle Grounds offers scenic woodland walks, Segway Hebrides hire and challenging mountain biking trails. Bike hire available from Bespoke Cycles,Willowglen. LewsCastle

Beside Lews Castle is an amazing museum which will give you a taste of the entire Outer Hebrides.You can see six of the incredible walrus ivory Uig Chessmen, originating  from around the 12th century and discovered in a sandbank in Uig in 1831.

The annual Hebridean Celtic Festival brings world class bands to the Castle Green. Heb Celt Fest 2019 is from 17-20th July.

There are see mammal trips from the harbour with Stornoway Seafari and Hebridean Adventure.

In Stornoway be sure to buy Stornoway Black Pudding, Stornoway Kippers, Abhainn Dearg Whisky from Uig and the world famous Harris Tweed.

There are also several craft shops, coffee shops and art exhibitions can be seen at An Lanntair Arts Centre, Kenneth Street.
